The Psychedelic ’60s – Literary Tradition and Social Change

I just found a really good website by the University of Virginia Library. I think it offers a really good overview on the various aspects of the 60s.

PEACE..LOVE..UNIT

Taking Woodstock, 2009, directed by Ang Lee

Wikipedia says:

…Woodstock Music & Art Fair (informally, Woodstock or The Woodstock Festival) was a music festival, billed as “An AquarianExposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music”. It was held at Max Yasgur‘s 600-acre (2.4 km²; 240 ha, 0.94 mi²) dairy farm in the Catskills near the hamlet of White Lake in the town of Bethel, New York, from August 15 to August 18, 1969. Bethel, in Sullivan County, is 43 miles (69 km) southwest of the town of Woodstock, New York, in adjoining Ulster County

–> so Woodstock wasn’t actually in California, but I think its really important for the Hippie Culture and the movie is said to be quite good…

What were hippies and their counter-culture movement?

There is this really good website http://www.mortaljourney.com that describes itself as:

”Mortal Journey provides an extensive history of fads and trends from the 1800’s through modern day. Parents can use Mortal Journey to research, in depth, the latest trends and fads that their children may be a part of. Kids can use Mortal Journey to find the newest “in” thing and make sure they are not trailing behind their peers. And everyone can use Mortal Journey to discover the fads and trends of yesteryear, research how those trends came about, and yes, chuckle at some of the strange behaviors the collective public at times was willing to accept as the “norm”.”

Here is what they have to say about the Hippies:
